The Diamond State Drive-in Theater in Felton will be extinct soon.; it started life as a bed sheet and a projector.

The theater opened in 1949 with a screen transplanted from Camden, N.J. and two large speakers on either side of the screen. They were replaced in 1950 by in-car speakers. The current screen has been in place since 1972. Until 1968, movie-goers had to use outhouses before the current restrooms were constructed. The theater was closed from 1986 to 1995 but reopened in 1995.

The land currently valued at 1.2 million has motivated the owners to sell.
